Bought this bike for $150 CAD, which I think was a steal don't know a lot about it but it seems almost like a gravel bike. I'm only really interested in real MTB, do you think I could turn this into a capable bike? I’m willing to invest a couple hundred bucks to make this work since the frame is so light, a big upgrade from my heavy ass CCM.

Main things to address:

  • Pedals are scraping the ground sometimes as the pedal-ground clearance is pretty small. It’s fine for road riding but for rough terrain it would be a problem. I'm also a little oversized for the frame, so if I shorten the crank would that hurt my ergonomics much?
  • The tires are 700x42c, is that fine for MTB or should I get bigger wheels? Not sure if I could fit much larger wheels given the forks pictured below
  • Forks are Suntour NCX E LO 700C Air, 63mm, aluminum steerer

Thanks!

  1. The front fork seals look dry rotted and the stanchions are rusty. Your pedals scraping the ground appear to be cause the front fork is not fully extended, for than likely blown out. I hate to break it to you but you’d be better off selling and finding a more modern bike used for the $500 range.
