GIve it some WD40 sprays and rub everything well with a brush to see the true picture. Probably surface rust, but you can’t really tell until you clean it

You’re just fine. That’s not rust. It’s old grease hardened. Use degreaser, steel wool and clean it dry. Grease it and mount the BB. Good luck!

Clean it and see if there is pitting. If there is pitting well I wouldn’t use it.

Toast is much tastier than rust, if in doubt just try each one with peanut butter and you’ll know the difference. Enjoy the rebuild and have a great day.
