Hi guys! This is being sold in my area for $250. Price seems just a little steep, but I really dig the look of the bike. Anything I should look out for to make sure I’m not being screwed over?
Just make sure that it breaks good and shifts good and holds air
senorroboto on
Looks like a 1994 Rockhopper Sport with a front suspension added after? I’m not seeing an exact model line up but that looks the closest and came in black. Back when the frames were still road frame geometry with long seat tube. STX parts came out 1993 so after that.
Anything specialized tends to carry a premium, and 90s mtbs have had a comeback as they were simple, durable, fun-to-ride bikes. The only thing I don’t miss is the 3×7 drivetrains, but this one has a Deore XT shifter set and STX crank/rear derailleur so upper-midrange. Handlebars look maybe after market as they say “giant”.
Definitely feel if the front suspension is still in good shape or not, might merit swapping to a steel fork at some point unless anyone still makes a QR straight tube rim brake fork.

A lot of modding options with these: https://bikepacking.com/news/readers-rig-tommys-1994-specialized-rockhopper/
