What’s your rain gear? Mine is Komine RK-551 Breather 3 layer Mod Raincoat.

Previously I was using the Endura X Brompton waterproof jacket. On a premium price point, it was rather disappointing. 1) It doesn’t have a hood, when the rain gets heavy ,water will start to enter from the neck and you will get wet inside as you continue cycling.
2) In my case, the brass zipper got frozen ( oxidation) Unable to remove the green/white residue using mixture of baking soda, vinegar, water. Tried using olive but that failed as well. Just waiting a good time to throw it away.

Now I am extremely satisfied with the Japanese Komine Mod Raincoat. Covering down to 5cm below my knee,Not only it fits me great like a how bespoke overcoat should drape but its hoodie fits my thousand MIPS helmet!
The thickness of the breathable waterproof fabrics are neither too heavy nor too light. And the material of the fabrics are of high quality. It’s Japanese for goodness sake! That’s enough to say that it speaks quality! Now..This is the best part.. it’s only $52 US Dollar!

I intend to have both colours but the Olive is out of stock for my size. I got the black for now, I’m surely buying the olive once it’s back in stock. I wish that Komine will produce in navy and tobacco in the future. I will surely buy as well.. can never be too many! 😀

  1. If I can help it I don’t cycle in strong rain. I live in a city with robust public transit, so that’s usually an option.

If I get surprised by rain, my preferred solution is to reach the next metro station and board a train from there.

In light rain I usually just get by with a hoodie or parka. They don’t cover my legs, but in light rain that’s fine. If I need to cycle in hard rain, I have an olive military poncho folded up in my messenger bag. It covers almost my entire body and whatever I carry on my back too, and it’s fully waterproof. It’s not very breathable though, so I prefer not to use it in hot and humid weather or for longer distances.

  2. Waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket, waterproof gloves. The worst thing really is cycling in the rain with glasses – contact lenses help.

  3. Great coat, thanks for sharing! Do Komine deliver worldwide?
As for me, good water repealing jacket, trousers and shoes. I usually don’t cycle in very heavy rain yet but I’m slowly warming up to the idea. I also need to try a rain poncho.

When I get round to it it will be a Mac in a sac poncho. Will hopefully be able to cover handle bars and me with a backpack or something.

Currently its a tresspass packable jacket, and a get wet everywhere else
