Today as I was braking down a decline I heard a noise and felt something on the back of my bike. When I stopped to look my brake rotor was completely off of the hub. No bolts were left and it looks like 2 of the bolts actually snapped through the side of the hub. I ordered some new bolts but now that I'm looking closer at the wheel it looks like this hub mount piece isn't something that can be removed easily.
Will I need to buy a whole new hub/spoke/rim for the bike?
Does anyone have any experience with this happening or any ideas as to why this happened?
I'm pretty new to all of this so I would appreciate any help on how to get back on the road safely and any maintenance l've likely forgotten to do.
I've got a State 4130 with mechanical disc brakes if that info helps at all.

  1. This is a only a guess, but the only thing I can think of is the bolts were loose, which has caused the disc to move under the breaking force putting the strain on the bolts and causing what you found.
