    Yes. You need to remove the cassette if you want to access the freehub body. You need a lockring tool, a long handle wrench, and a chain whip/cog wrench.

  2. Yes, remove the cassette,that’s easy, and buying the tools you need now will save you money in the future. Removing the freehub itself from the hub is a different thing, depending on the model. At its simplest, you will need cone spanners to remove the axle, then a 10mm Hex wrench(Allen key) to unscrew the free hub.
