  1. I’m new to Gravelbiking. I’m relatively long, but have short legs. I don’t understand that Canyon suggests size M, while the length of my legs can easily be compensated with saddle height? Or am I missing something? Please help me understand.

  2. The number one thing in a bike fit is saddle height. You can get a reasonable estimate of this from online calculators where you input your inner leg length.

Assuming that both M and L work with your saddle height you have 2 choices. On the M the saddle will be relatively higher compared to the cockpit which is what canyon normally does (more aggressive). The bike may feel a bit too short for you but you can get a longer stem to deal with it.

The L will be longer but will also have the cockpit sitting higher so you’ll get a much more relaxed riding position. If you want to go lower you can then remove the spacers under the stem.

But as always the best recommendation is to get a professional bike fit before buying a new bike and even more so if your body dimensions are atypical.

  3. I am in the opposite camp:
    Go for size L

Bikes ride the best with no spacers under the stem. If you have short legs for your total length, your torso is tall. That is why you will probably be fine with the longer reach and stem on the L

Frame L will fit larger framebags when bikepacking

You might want to get a shorter crank though since the 175 on frame L might feel too long.

  5. You can only get the size M then, because there is a minimum insertion length for the seatpost. So, you cannot sit below the minimum number, and this will 100% make it impossible for you to sit on size L.

You can make the reach longer by using a longer stem. Since the bike is using a non-integrated cockpit, this upgrade is very easy. If you don’t want to spend extra to get a stem, moving the saddle a bit backward can also offer you 2-3cm more reach. (This could also change your pedaling dynamics, be careful)
