I guess my question is why can’t people on bicycles ride safe? We can send $10 million to India for gender studies. Send so many billions of dollars to other countries that have nothing to do with us but we can’t have an infrastructure that allows bicyclist to get out there And exercise and enjoy doing what we like to do. I drive all the time, and I see signs that say share the road when there is no breakdown lane. He’s at 55 mph roads which means people do 70.
In the city, cars and trucks park or stand in the bike lane and that is OK. There has to be some way to create a dedicated lane, whether it’s concrete barriers or something that protects people on two wheels.

So sad. Cyclists are generally treated like trash in the US. The SUV is unfortunately king here.
I hear ya. I’m angrier today than I should be as I don’t know this guy other being an avid hockey fan and plenty of people in my city have suffered the same fate and I was less angry about their deaths. I don’t think the general population considers cycling a normal activity that should be encouraged, especially not for transportation. You wanna ride your bike on the weekend for fun or exercise, okay they get having fun. But if you choose to ride your bike to get from point a to point b, doesn’t matter the reason – you are automatically weird. I truly believe most car drivers (I drive a car too) think that people who use a bike as transportation are less than human or broken some social contract. We are making positive strides in my community to accommodate different road users with different and safer infrastructure. But it’s still dangerous and cars still rule the day. Sorry, I’m ranting here too. But I’m angry like you, I want to be able to ride my bike and not worry that I’m going to die. I had someone on my teams hockey thread (not blue jackets – this tragic news I making the rounds) tell me I shouldn’t ride my bike if I love my family. Not that we should fix the roads or change car culture. That I shouldn’t do an activity that is good for me physically, mentally, and is better for our planet, community, etc. it’s fucking infuriating.
And earlier this week I was running on a neighborhood street and had a car stop to block my path to roll down the window to let me know there is a sidewalk right over there. Mind you we both had plenty of room if they got over. I encountered a handful of other cars and had no issues. But this entitled prick, who lives in the same neighborhood chose to expand more energy yelling at me than simply driving 1 foot to the left. Drivers feel so entitled to their roads it makes me so angry.
Shove those 10 million where you want, we don’t need your crap here

Conservatives often spin USAID as money being taken from Americans to help non-Americans. At the same time, it does help them but the real purpose of gaining influence and allow access for our intelligence services to prevent foreign attacks on American citizens.
As long as cyclists are seen as the less dead we won’t see change.
The problem is not infrastructure. The problem is carbrains. I would tax them so hard that most of them simply cannot afford their crappy piece of metal.
I heard some colleagues in my break room today ranting about cyclists and how they take up the road and ride 2 a breast and you can’t over take etc…
I seriously had to bite my tongue as I don’t know them very well but I did interrupt and simply say that if they counted the time lost on their journey, I’d be very surprised if a cyclist cost them anything more than 40 seconds, they stared at me like I was a fucking idiot and continued to go on about how it’s so dangerous having bikes on the road… yes because bikes are so dangerous against a 4 tonne vehicle. I went to the Netherlands earlier this year and it opened my eyes. I live in England and most people absolutely hate road cyclists which in turn makes them hate all cyclists (commuters and tourers like myself)
They have all been brainwashed that the car is king. Government will push electric car bursary’s and stop us using plastic cups but not build safe pedestrian Infrastructure and get people moving more. It’s INFURIATING
I feel like the only thing bicycles have to do with this was that they were on bicycles at the time..
