  1. Looking to buy this bike, and saw that it has tubing from a company called Extralight. Anyone ever heard of it, and is this similar to Columbus Thron / Cromor?

  2. GenericName187 on

That’s a no-name generic tubing sticker. the ultra light designation is meaningless, it’s not brand-name tubing.

Mass is not a well known brand, This could be a decently light frame or it could be a tank. My guess is the bike is decent but not great quality from the late 90s or early 2000s

  3. Yes, but not as a brand. Quality steel tubing for bike frames, from well known reputable tubing manufactures, come in a variety of wall thickness and configurations that builders select based on a variety of factors such as the riders weight and the intended use of the bike. The thinner/lighter ones have sometimes been referred to as ‘extralight’. So ask yourself why a manufacturer choose not want to display the tubing brand on a bike if they were using it, opting instead for a label that is only used to entice and appeal to those who don’t know what they are buying.

  4. Fairly generic, but it might be a nice bike to put the miles in.

Exotic tubing frames are not always the nicest to ride. In blind tests with otherwise identical machines, experienced riders tend to pick more ordinary frames. There’s a reason 531 lasted so long!

Double butted cr-mo is lightweigh tubing, even if it won’t be exceptionally light.
