Sh*t brake levers?

I bought this bike knowing it’s budget level but I didn’t expect any of the components to be total junk. It’s a GT Avalanche Comp so it isn’t bottom of the barrel.

The bike slightly tipped over sitting still and dinged up the end of the brake lever or at least I thought that was all at the time. I took a closer look and the thin pot metal looking pos lever twisted and cracked.

Should I ask GT to work with me or should I just return the bike totally?
