In this video, you will join me along an exciting eurovelo 8 bikepacking trip as…
I arrived in Antibes, where I eagerly explored the local beach. The desire to take a swim was strong, especially knowing that the coastal stretch along the EuroVelo 8 route was brief.
The beach was a amazing, with its clean waters and sandy shores, although I was surprised by how casually the French would relocate my belongings to claim their spot.
Cannes was next, where I stumbled upon a music festival. The sight of festival dressed crowds funneling into the entrance piqued my curiosity.
Glancing at the roster, I recognized big names like David Guetta, which explained the excitement in the air.
Regrettably, my second day on the coast marked the time to venture inland. Leaving Cannes, I followed a road alongside a chill river. It led me to a secret oasis
It seemed an ideal spot for camping, yet it was too early in the day to settle down. I noticed the nature park was under vigilant surveillance, with cameras and signs warning against camping to avoid fines or even imprisonment.
My journey was then halted by a roadblock, a sign warning of forest fire dangers.
Stranded in hilly terrain at six in the evening, I had no choice but to detour 15 kilometers via busy roads to reach the nearest village.
By eight, I paused for a break, eating apricots purchased from a local pricey supermarket.
Then the darkness brought a growing concern for a place to camp. The route plunged into a valley, forests closing in, and the absence of light along the road made the prospect of camping seem grim.
Then, in the cloak of night, I spotted a flat concrete platform beside the road, atop an electric utility installation. It was just spacious enough for my tent.
Although the passing cars were a constant hum through the night, the safety of my tent was comforting compared to the vulnerability of a bivy.
As I drifted to sleep, my thoughts were already on the morrow, eager to explore the French nature parks. But that’s a story for the next video.
