I know nothing about MTBs and their geometry! Is it as simple as just replacing it with a wide fork?
Seats super high because the frame is too small for me, trying to fix it up for a friend. 🙂

Yes, it is possible if you purchase the correct fork that fits your bike.
What are you trying to do? “Wider” fork?
That’s 2007 xc bike. Getting a little old. Newer bikes are bigger but the angles aren’t that far off.
Your problem is you have a 26″ wheel and a straight head tube. For that age and use I would get a cheap air fork like a “LANXUANR 26/27.5/29 Inch Magnesium Alloy Mountain Bike Fork Rebound Adjustment,Air Supension Front Fork 100mm Travel,9mm Axle,Disc Brake,Matte Black”. from amazon. Will be world’s better than the original fork ever was.
The rockshox judy silver tk is a good straight steerer fork, just make sure you get the right size for ur tire
Manitou Markhor is a straight steerer fork for a 26”.
