I bought my first gravel bike a few weeks ago, a Triban GRVL 900 Ti. Before that I only had my Omnium Mini-Max cargo bike, and a Brompton. So obviously, N+1…
This past weekend I was at the Nogaro circuit to support one of my friends and play a gig with my band. Let's say the weekend didn't exactly go as planned. Sadly a rider died during the Saturday afternoon's endurance race, so our gig was understandably cancelled. On Sunday my friend then had to DNF on lap 9 of his endurance race because of a clutch issue… So we spontaneously decided to play our gig in the paddock without asking anyone, as an hommage to the late #268. We played, drank way too much, and then I had to wake up early to get going because I had planned to ride home to Bordeaux : 167km (104miles) of gravel and road (approx 30-40% gravel/offroad, and the rest on asphalt and concrete of varying quality).
I was on the bike for 8 hours, and total elapsed time between start and finish was arround 9h30 or 9h45.
It was "fun", I now know I can do it, and I don't want to do it again soon… But it should give me way more confidence on shorter rides.

167km is what I do in two days. And definitely without the drinking or the mental burden of the previous events. Take care of yourself, and knowing your limits, I’m confident you’ll enjoy more the short rides. Kudos.
