M2 stands for the exotic frame material that Specialized used; a metal matrix composite – 6061 alloy tubing reinforced with aluminium oxide ceramic particles. Space shuttle stuff dude.
FS stands for Specialized Future Shock, the front suspension that this bike came with originally thirty years ago. Got this Rock Shox 30 on the cheap. Ka-ching!
Stumpjumper stands for jumpin' stumps, which I caught myself doing more and more when I took my Hard Rock gravel build on not-so-gravel trails. The logical conclusion was to build a more capable hardtail mountainbike. This frame, which is by the way one of the last Specialized frames manufactured in the U.S.A., was perfect for this endeavor since I bought it without a fork. The fork of choice has mounts for disc brakes, which of course had to be occupied by hydraulic ones. And since I was apparently going all out, I had to add a dropper post, too.
I'm so proud of how this bike turned out. It rides like a dream.
