Trying to find a budget bike for a friend who wants to get into the sport and found a nice custom trek bike from 2006, but since we have to travel a bit to take it and try it im trying to figure out if the frame size is correct for her, in the pics it says the bike has 26" wheels and 19.5"/49.5cm (seat tube length?) she is 1.64m (5'4) tall and the current owner who's height fits to the bike is 1.66m, i couldn't find any old trek size chart so i hope someone with more experience than me can give me further info here. Thx in advance for eventual answers.

  1. Way too big of a bike for her…..a 19.5″ frame is for people above 6’0 and up. emphasis on the up part. She is on the small frame size of things. Like 15 inch frames

  2. If you are trying to find a bike for a friend who wants to get into the sport, be a good friend by steering her away from 15 year old bikes.

The reach on that frame might be about right by modern standards but everything else will be wrong and the standover will be far too much.

No, look for something that is no more than 8 years old and ideally under 6 years. Getting a bike with more up to date geometry will make getting into the sport so much more enjoyable for her.
