I’m setting up my Trek Cobia 29” as a faster gravel type bike using corner bars to get some drop. Currently running an almost shot bontrager 2.1 rear and a plump 2.3 wtb exiwolf on the front. Both >10 years old and in need of replacement.

I am using it for cat 2-3 gravel, loose gravel on hard pack, some minimally maintained fire roads, occasional loose rutted dirt roads and maybe 30% pavement between sections. I may also use it on rail trails. I’ll be using it in gravel rides/races sometimes too.

The tire selection these days is crazy. I want something fast on hard pack and pavement but grabby enough to not make me wipe out if I hit a loose patch at 30mph on a gravel road.

I’m also wondering where people get stuff from. I’ve gotten counterfeit cleats and chains from eBay and Amazon so I need somewhere reliable to get stuff from. I’m not trying to spend a ton but I do want something that will let me go fast and ideally not crash much.

Any recommendations on tires and a safe source?

I like my Teravail Sparwood tires. Fast rolling but good hookup on dirt and gravel.

It a big fan of Specialized Fast Traks. I have switched to Race Kings on my 26” rigid bike and really like them but would only use them in dry conditions since the tread packs up with mud. I have also heard the Schwalbe Rock Razor is fast but have never tried them.
