Hi friends! I had a small accident the other day (really embarrassing – had to circle around another cyclist, and did not manage to unclip in time and fell over). Thanks God, no damage to the frame is visible, and apart from some small bruises no major injuries.

However, I realized today that the left hood is bent inwards (it is also scratched a bit – I guess it absorbed most of the force).

I now read that the best way to solve this is to loosen the hex screw after pulling forward the rubber cover from the hood. Then readjust the hood, and tighten back.

Before I embark on this quest – 2 questions:

[1] Is this something I can safely do myself, or do I need to check with my local bike store?

[2] To how many NM should I retighten the hex screw afterwards?

I attached 2 photos.

  1. 1: Yes, you can do it (torque wrench please).

2: 6-8 NM according to the manuals (si.shimano.com). But I never listen and put them on 5.

Had a similar fall a couple of weeks ago. Forgot to unclip and fell over luckily I was taking a break in a parking lot. I just smacked the hood with my palm to move it back in place. Check your saddle, mine was also knocked out alignment.
