So, I guess what I have is a presta valve? But it won’t fit into the gas pump. Now I’m thinking I may need a valve adapter? Help me please

Just get a good pump that has the Presta already on it. A good pump is worth tbe investment…

Yes, just purchase the proper pump. Shouldn’t be an unreasonable expense, and it’s far more consistent than risking the gas station hose, which depending on the setting, could blow your tube if you aren’t careful.

Presto’s are the worst, fill up a tire and try to close the valve as fast as possible as possible.
I drilled out the rim on my mountain bike and went back to Schrader valves.

look at a video of how a Presta valve works. They are somewhat more delicate than the older style Schroeder valve. It is easy to damage if you don’t do it right. i’ve seen it happen.

Yeah, I also had to be shown how to inflate tyres with presta valves! It’s weird when you’ve only ever used Schrader valves on cars, motorcycles, wheelbarrows, older bicycles, etc.

Do yourself a favor and get a pump with a head that does both presta and schrader valves

Bike pumps will have two ends on the valve adapter, one is for presta. On the valve, unscrew the inner pieces first. Attach the pump adapter, usually there’s a toggle lock, pump, release lock and remove adapter, thread the inner piece back in, put the cap over it.

By the looks of it, you might need a presta pump. You can find these at you local bike shop for 5 dollars (atleast for the little ones) a cheaper and more convenient way would be to buy a valve adapter, something that would be generic and practical to pump with.
