Any recommendations of what to do with this bike rack to prevent scratches, or what bike rack to get to use on a new car? I included pictures of some of the scratches this bike rack caused and I’d like to avoid that with a new car. It would have to be a trunk mounted bike rack. A roof rack or hitch mounted rack won’t be an option. Thanks!

Bungee cords to stabilize the front wheel. Unfortunately, this stuff is inevitable with trunk racks, that’s why I never recommend them.
When I use my Saris rack, I use pieces of painter’s tape at the contact points. It only takes a few minutes and peels off easily.
I got a Torklift Ecohitch for my small, lowish hatchback. It’s awesome.
My recommendation is always, tray style hitch rack. They work with any bike and no need to worry about carbon frames. They are a bit on the expensive side but the used market can be good deals. If you get a 1.25in rack, it can be adapted to a 2in. Every vehicle I have looked for, a hitch is available. Most are around $100-150 some are more expensive thought. Install is usually easy and only need basic tools. So in the end, you have a more secure way of transporting the bikes. It does not damage the vehicle. The vehicle is less important for the type of rack. The bike is more protected and dont risk forgetting it while pulling into a garage. The con, its more expensive. But the resale value of a quality rack is higher than a roof rack or the type you currently have.
