Stay away from bikes this old for commuting unless you know what are you doing.

I’m going to disagree with the other commenter- as long as it’s in good shape, there are few reasons that an old bike would make for a poor commuter. The downsides would be if the bike came with 27″ wheels, steel wheels, different thread standards (mostly old french bikes) and perhaps more frequent servicing of cup-and-cone bearings. That’s it. Otherwise they work fine, are fairly rugged, and often times it’s best for a commuter bike to be something cheaper that you don’t mind getting scratched and dinged up a little
However, this particular bicycle was not high end when it was sold new, and with the current used bike market being very good for buyers, it’s only worth $50 at most.
