Adding some new parts to my old road bike and didn’t check on the cassette/derailleur capacity. I kept the 1x 42T chainring from the previous single speed setup.
I’ve already added +6 links after matching the chain ends with the big-big method. Is my medium cage derailleur maxed out with the 11-34 or should I had +2 more links? I’m fine with getting a smaller cassette or another chain.

+2 links on chain is what you need
It’s good to add more links, because on big-big the derailleur looks too stretched. The best way, IMO is to add “n” more links that keep enough tension in big-small combination and not overstretch the derailleur in big-big combination. Now I see it overstretched.
