  1. I have this 1982 Trek 412 that I’m planning to rebuild as a 2×9. Would I be correct in selecting a 170mm crank arm?

Also planning to re-paint it as its in pretty rough shape. How much of a crime would it be to remove the Trek logo on the seat tube? Doesn’t really match the color scheme I’m planning. Going to be black with blue keirin sparkle, and ice blue patterning on the fork, seat stays, and chai stays.

  2. you are correct in selecting whatever crank works best with your leg length and preference. dont see why the bike should dictate

  3. You will never achieve better paint than the original. Trek paint is excellent. I strongly suggest just touching up the bare spots and leaving it as is overall.

As for crank length, choose whatever you prefer.

Looks like a 56cm, so 170 should be fine if you around around 5’10” – 6’2″.

What a weird thing to obsess over. It really doesn’t matter all that much, just get it built already.
