  1. Hard to tell from the photo but I’m in team “scratch from cable rub”. If it’s a deal I’d buy it and just stick some helicopter tape over that area to prevent further paint damage.

    It’s rather straight to be a crack. In addition, it’s close enough to the opening of the tube that you should be able to shine a flashlight in there and see if there is a crack on the inside (might need to clean the inside first).

  3. When I cracked the head tube of my lugged Bianchi, the crack followed the lug. I had warning thanks to a weird dry creaking when I was out of the saddle. The frame was stu held together by the fork and headset so there wasn’t a catastrophic failure. Mark the suspect crack and see if it grows.

  4. This is weird, but at least the headset is out and you can look inside the head tube. It actually does look like a crack to me, I don’t see any reason for the rub to look like that. I’m wondering if it’s because of reaming for a headset. Which actually is going to make checking for a crack rather difficult.
