All went good. Followed step by step and it was all pretty straightforward, had no issues really. I did notice when putting the top cap back on, it only took a few turns and it was good and tight. The replacement is about the same dimensions so stem/fork position is about the same as old. Movement seems fine. No resistance or wiggle at all.
When I look at the headset/frame line. It seems like there is a slight gap between the headset and frame. I'm not sure if this is normal. Or if something isn't flush. The issue I guess is I cannot get the thing back off to save my life. Pushing as hard as I can on the wrench key , even tried a rubber mallet to rap wrench but, can't break it loose. My question I guess is..
- Does this look normal /safe ?
- Any tips for getting this top cap loose so I can put it back together and make sure?

I am curious to know about this as mine shows a bit but headset does not wobble
If there is no gap, then the dust cap would rub on the frame, and the wheel/bars would be stuck in one position.
Leverage. Extend your Allen key somehow. I usually take a box-end wrench and slip it over the end of the Allen. Smooth, constant pressure with as much leverage as you can get. Banging with a hammer is always my last choice.
That top bolt is not meant to be tightened with the force of a thousand Thanos’s. Just snug it to bring the front end together and tighten the stem side bolts.
What can’t you get off?? If the forks do not wiggle in the headtube of the bike and everything is compressed together you should be fine. I’d make sure all bolts are tightened equally and the fork cap and stem bolts are tight
