Hello, I’m new to bike packing and would appreciate some advice about bag placement and fits.

Does the half frame bag pictured fit, or is it slightly too big? And if it is will this be problematic and should I return it for the next size down?

Secondly, how should I attach the top tube bag? When tight to the stem it rubs when I turn the handle bars, and when backed off it doesn’t seem very secure? Is this just a function of the shape of the bag and having a horizontal top tube?

I’ve attached videos to the post and put pictures in the comments

Thanks for taking a look!

  1. In my experience, that’s just how it goes with the top tube bags that use straps. Bolt on ones sit upright without wobbling, but obviously that’s not an option on a frame that doesn’t have mounts there. A steel bike with skinny round tubes also gives it less of a spot to perch on but you have to work with what you have.

I would go with the second option to have it more secure. When riding you don’t really turn the bars that far most of the time, but if you leave it loose and depending what you have in there, it flopping over and hitting your knees will be very annoying.

The framebag looks a little big, but if it works it’s good. Try filling it with random clothes or whatever and ride to check leg clearance.

For the top tube bag, it’s probably fine if it wiggles. I had the same problem as you last year and I chose to leave it wiggling and never had an issue.
