Hi everyone, I was just preparing the GPX route for my upcoming trip through Hungary. For the most part I will be following EV14 (between Debrecen and Lake Balaton), but I noticed a section (between Gödöllő and Budapest) where the official route takes you along some very busy roads with no cycling infrastructure.
I managed to find an alternative route, going south through Isaszeg and Pécel, along some dirt roads and quiet residential streets. Now there's maybe 1.5km of busy roads, instead of almost 10. The only tricky portion is halfway to Isaszeg, past the Caterpillar factory, where the separate bike lane ends. But you'll soon hit residential streets again.
You could also take a train between Gödöllő and Kerepes to skip this area.
I'll also leave this link to a Komoot map with the route I planned. It also shows how to cross Budapest on streets with cycling infrastructure.

Budapest has a great cycle path infrastructure. The EV route might be alongside larger roads but is actually on the bike paths at the side. You’ll find most towns and Budapest have cycling specific routes shown on finger post signs. I’ve just come back from Hungary and rode on bike paths from Lake Balaton to Budapest airport. I hardly rode on a true road. I didn’t follow the EV apart from when it was convenient. This photo was on the path alongside Lake Balaton (very nice).
