I’m heading off a solo trip from Paris to Thessaloniki next week, and while I know Northern Europe / the Alps quite well I’ve never been to the Balkans before. Based on my route, do you guys have any recommendations or things to consider heading through this part of the world (aside from aggressive dogs and potholes)?
As I’m going solo, I’d particularly appreciate any suggestions for bike friendly hostels, cafes etc to stop by en route to meet other cyclists.

idk if this helps but it seems to generally head in the same direction. Maybe there’s parts of this that could be helpful:

Looks pretty good but I can’t zoom in / download to komoot. You seem to avoid the coast, which I’d urge as the D8 can be awful. Consider using the Ciro trail if you’re not already, but it might bring you out further west than you’d like entering Montenegro
croatian costal roads in peak season are super busy with limited shoulder space. not so relaxed riding
How dare you!
Except for the part in Croatia, I habe the exact same plans, kudos 🙂
you know about [crazyguyonabike.com](http://crazyguyonabike.com) right? there are a couple entries there under “Balkans” and I’m sure you can find more if you search on the specific countries.
