Can anyone advise me on what to do here? Had play in the headset and I realised the top nut holding it together has pulled the thread out of the forks! Sorry if my terminology is wrong I’m a big novice 😆
It’s just the star nut. They’re cheap as chips to replace. You should be able to pull that one out with pliers or if you can turn it over with a screw driver, it would come out even easier. Then just google videos on installing a new star nut.

If you install a new star nut with a star nut installer, it will knock the old one further down. It may even fall out the bottom. Otherwise a shop will sort it for a few quid.

Punch the old star nut out and install a new one. They are VERY inexpensive to replace and source.
