I’ve had like 6 different bikes by now and I’ve been riding for about two years. I’m seventeen now and started riding two years ago so I was fifteen when I started. I was first introduced to fixed gear when I saw a Matt Reyes video on YouTube called “How to ride your bike in the rain” and I was just like holy fuck this is sick.

old enough to know how to properly set up the saddle geo
I got my first fixed gear bike in May of 2022. Way too addicting, but a good addiction. I saw Makaframa on YT and that completely rocked my world! That’s when I knew I had to get a fixed gear bike. Amazing how these simple machines can take us so far.
Hung out with some bad kids when I was 11-12 they all rode fixed gear and convinced me to steal one stole one rode it for about two weeks the kid recognized it called the cops got a slap on the hand kid got his bike back then about 2 months later bought my first bike 6ku urban track it got stolen karma I guess stopped hanging out with the kids I was hanging out with saved up 60 bucks bought a complete off Facebook marketplace eventually bought a for repair NJS Totaled it now I’m Riding my fuji going into freshman year and no longer hang out with those kids haven’t been arrested in almost half a year and im completely clean from smoking and drinking and ride solo mostly now, still just as fun and It pretty much saved me
Started at age 22 in Chicago in 2004. Never stopped after that. I initially heard of it from a friend, and the idea and the habit stuck, though the friend didn’t (Kev you suck).
For the last 20 years, I’ve always ridden fixed, and most of that time I’ve only had one bike so basically it’s been my only option. And yeah, I want a second bike now, but I’ll never give up fixed.
Started last November at 25! I didn’t even know what an actually *nice* bike felt like until about this time last year… Started seeing this girl, and she let me ride her really nice 90s composite Trek, and that thing felt like a Ferrari compared to my entirely stock 80’s Raleigh! She’s really into fixed gear and helped me convert my Raleigh to a fixie and now I’ve got a super nice Vendetta I’ve built up entirely myself!
I was a junior in high school in 2008 which was pretty prime “fixie” era. Mismatched wheels, goofy builds, janky conversions, the tiniest bars ya ever saw. I also lived in Oakland so we were hugely influenced by SF messengers and alley cat culture. Then in 2010 when Macaframa came out I cant tell you how many hours we spent practicing Keo Spins and trying to get our bikes to clear for bar spins. Haven’t stopped riding fixed since- but now I ride with at least a front brake 😉
Got my first fixed gear about a month ago.
I’m around 40
Main reason was that i was getting back into cycling and wanted something bulletproof, so wanted a single speed.
I’d never ridden a fixed before so made sure to get something with a flipflop hub so i could always swap it back to single speed if fixed wasnt for me (or my blown out knee)
Turns out I really enjoy it, so it stayed fixed.
2007/2008 (in my early twenties) and I don’t remember how I heard about it. Think I saw it online but don’t remember the context. Made a single speed conversion mountain bike at first and then a fixed conversion of very old road bike. The MACAFRAMA trailer that came out was really cool. Scene is/was tiny in Stockholm but terry b did a video here and I watched that a lot. I’ve had 3 three bikes in total, had the first one for 10 years and then got a Cinelli and last year I got a fixed commuter. So I got 2 in total now.

Came across the macaframa video in youtube back when I was 13 and decided I wanna ride one too
Watching videos of people absolutely thrash fixed gear bikes through US cities on YouTube as a 16 year old in Australia. Bought a single speed with a flip flop. Rode for a year or two and left it in my parents shed. Pulled it out for a clean up and service 14 years later and have been riding everywhere since.
i just didnt find some sports extreme enough 😂
