Looking to get into mtb a bit more but atm i only have a hardtail carrera, back brake doesnt work and front barely works because i didnt take care of it and its getting too small for me, its just shit, my birthday is coming up soon and my parents said they will pay like 400-500 euros maybe and i can pay the rest however a new bike would be too expensive so i went to FB marketplace and found a couple bikes, i liked the look of these ones but i dont know much about them so i came here to ask what you guys think.

Im pretty sure the specialized is enduro and the commencal is downhill, enduro would probably be better for me but i dont mind.
Im mostly just gonna be on local trails and whatever random roads i find (i live in countryside so lots of old dirt roads to ride on) so i dont need anything too crazy.

Hey man, I wouldn’t buy the specialized. Bc it’s pretty old. Commencal has overall better bikes but I would try to bargain it to 500-600. Good luck.
The anodization (black coating) on the supreme fork is toast. Not sure how long that fork would last.
Tbh if I was you I would save up a bit more and buy something like polygon Siskiu which is a really good bike for its value.
Definitely don’t get a downhill bike for trails and dirt roads, those are meant specifically for lift-access downhill only, not for pedaling any real distance. The Specialized doesn’t look terrible, although note that if the dropper needs servicing that’s an extra cost. Honestly for the type of riding you’re describing even the 150mm travel on the stumpjumper sounds a bit much – I’d consider a nicer trail hardtail like a Trek Roscoe.
The Specialized is very old. It might need very expensive servicing and parts replacement (chain, casssette, bearings). The other bike is not rideable with that fork. Suspension needs regular maintenance. You can get like used Canyon Stoic hardtail for that money and it is proper trail bike. Or something like Trek Marlin.
you ABSOLUTELY do mind if you buy a downhill bike or not. downhill bikes are ONLY for downhill and you’ll realize that if you mistakenly get one to pedal.
the stumpjumper is really a trail bike, not an enduro, and it would probably suit your riding pretty well. I have one from the same generation and love it, still ride it daily, I would get that if its in decent shape. The suspension will likely need to be serviced (you could possibly skip the damper service but the outer seals should be replaced), as well as the dropper.
