  1. Get the yellow SPD-SL cleats and any road shoe (3 holes.

    Be careful to not confuse them with SPD cleats (no “SL”) which have two holes and fit mountain bike shoes.

  2. So you’ve not ridden clipless pedals before.

    When you get setup with the proper shoes and cleats, practice many many times before you go out on the road. If you have to think about disengaging from the pedals you’re going to fall.

    Disengaging should be instinctual, once you’re under stress your body will revert to muscle memory. Hopefully that’s a heel out motion, and not lifting your foot off a flat pedal.
