This is an 11 speed CS-M8000 cassette on a 2019 Emonda SL 6 that I'm putting a GRX group set on. The casette shifts back and forth slightly. The lock cap is completely screwed on with the proper torque.
Do I need to add a spacer to this cassette and setup?

Yes it requires the 1.85mm spacer behind the cassette
Yes. Shimano 11 speed cassettes with a 34t or larger cog requires a 1.85mm spacer behind the cassette.
(This means these cassettes are compatible with MTB wheels, which is nice.)
