It’s recommending a small even though I’m on the cusp of a large within the graph. Meet in the middle and get a medium?

I have the exact same measurements and am in the same boat on sizing for a new Aeroad. I run an Ultimate in size M and the reach is long. I am told by others I look stretched on the bike. I’m going to get a size S. If you search around on reddit for the same thing, i.e “long torso short legs canyon aeroad”, you’ll see people getting recommended and going with the smaller size.

I’m similar height with slightly longer legs. I’m on a medium ultimate and actually had to get a shorter cockpit which got me fit on it perfectly.

Posts like this puzzle me. Why not just settle with what Canyon’s site recommends? Surely they know better than anybody. If the site recommends Small, then go with it.

Maybe you should consider a costum bike? It seems like a very low saddle isn’t the answer here (also not a very natural position) and an S would be short. Middle ground might be an S with a very long stem (you would probably have to buy a new cockpit for this though).

I recently bought the same bike and was in a similar grey area. Though I’m not as tall, but I went for the medium and have enjoyed two 80K+ rides and comfort has been great
I just got a an Ultimate Cf Sl Di2. I was on the cusp of small, and the site recommended X Small, so I went with that. Remember, you can always make a smaller bike bigger, but not a bigger bike smaller. And also you have 14 days to decide if the sizing was off or not and return it.

I was in the same boat with my canyon except M or L. Went with the M and never looked back

Follow their size guide. I was on the edge of small/medium. slightly shorter leg than average. Small fit like a dream.

The seat won’t drop low enough on a medium for your leg length. check the geo chart for the seat height range to check.

I also thought it was weird for me I’m at 183 cm and 31incg inseam so i went with medium on and endurace and fit perfect, large would feel to big. From my understanding a medium is like 56cm right?

Do you already have a bike? Measure your seat height and check if your seat height is within the adjustable range of size S Aeroad.
If not, then you have no choice. The reach is much more adjustable than saddle height… you simply cannot ride a bike that your leg cannot be properly angled.
Optionally, you can consider a 165mm crank that might be able to put you on size S Aeroad easier.

Maybe an unpopular opinion:
Either probably is just fine. Normally, I’d say go with their recommendation (knowing nothing more about you) but seeing this chart and knowing that the standover on the Aeroad is not bad, I might recommend the Medium.
Some folks like going a size down (Cavendish did it and he’s a legend). Some folks say buy small and swap/tweak parts (but that’s a lot harder/more expensive with an integrated cockpit like on this one). But my decoding factor – the chart suggests you have a pretty long torso. As long as you fit the true standover, I’d think having a reasonable reach is important enough to go with the Medium.
And if you’re buying new, you have 30 days to try it out.
