I’m in the market for a (first) bikepacking bike and have my eye on the Fairlight Faran 2.5. I would like to buy a pre-configured build: either a Shimano GRX 610 2×12 (specs) or Shimano GRX 820 2×12 (specs).
I also have a few parts I would like to change and I hope I can get some assistance with that:
- Is it possible to change the shifters and brake levers to Gevenalle CX2 or GX? I understand that I will lose the hydraulics, but I don’t mind. And which of the two do I need to order?
- Any advice for choosing either the 610 or 810?
- Any advice about the pre-configured builds? Parts I would be wise in upgrading or changing?
This post might be annoying, my apologize if that is the case. Unfortunately I don’t have a local group I can approach for information. Much obliged and I’m curious about the responses!

I have the fairlight faran, just went on my first bikepacking tour with it and did quite some gravel tours before. Absolutely love it, but like you have little to compare it with as it was my first real expensive bike. I also bought the pre configured build, the 820 one, 2×12 if I remember correctly (I am horrible with remembering those technical names) but would def buy the one with the most gearing options as I did. It helped me get across the alps (Splugen pass) without any real climbing experience and also did great carrying a load of stuff.
