Don’t know anything about it but hell yeah, it’s worth fixing up. What a beauty!
That’s the sort of bike I would strip down to the frame and build back up. By the time I was finished with it, it would look almost showroom condition. It’s in really good shape as it is and has an excellent group set on it plus carbon forks.
Someone did not know or appreciate what they had if they just put it by the dumpster. Good find!

Looks like 6500 series Shimano shifters, which shift beautifully if in good condition (which those appear to be). It was the last generation which had the cables exiting to the center, and that straight line routing was smooth, although of course it doesn’t give you the clean cable free cockpit that later series would. [kotm.bike](https://www.kotm.bike/) has replacement hoods for 6500, although those hoods look pretty good as is.
Worth fixing up yep. Ultegra 6500 9-speed has a reputation for long service life, 9-speed consumables like chains and cassettes are inexpensive to replace, and if any components need replacement most Sora R3000 components will work as whole-unit replacements (except the front derailleur/left shifter, which Shimano changed the cable pull).
You just scored something equivalent to a Sora R3000 rim-brake bike sold today for free.
Those Shimano wheels might be the first items to need replacement further down the line. Not especially durable due to the low spoke counts.
It’s full Ultegra. What needs fixing up? Just clean it up and ride it. Ignore comments that cost money. This is a full on steal. Those wheels are solid. It’s not “modern” whatever that means?! A baddass machine.
Have you checked to see if it’s stolen? I can’t imagine anyone throwing away a bike like that.
