Take out the pads. With an appropriate tool (for instance a tyre lever) *very carefully* push the pistons back in.
This is caused by depressing the brake lever without the wheel mounted. Don’t do that, because (apart from causing this problem) you also risk popping the pistons out entirely which is a much bigger problem. If you need to transport the bike without the wheels mounted, you can get a plastic spacer which you can clip in between the pads in place of the disk.

Honestly, have a shop reset the pistons. It’s easy to crack the piston when it’s this far out

Leave pads in. Open port in lever to relieve pressure (I use my bleed funnel for shimano). Separate pads with something that won’t damage pads (I use clean plastic tire lever). Excess fluid will purge out lever. Once pads are separated, install wheel. Pull the lever a few times to equalize things. Cap the lever (remove funnel and/or clean purged fluid). Done.

This probably happened because you (or someone) squeezed the brake lever with no wheel/rotor in place. In the future: don’t do that.

I have a dedicated (clean) tire lever that i use for spreading the pads out. you can buy a tool for pretty cheap too..
