Not camping but you know. Forgive me. I doubt the MTB sub cares and I just became the 29th use on r/allterrainbicycles.
Anyway. I wanted to get a sense of how well I could predict the conditions of some lesser-known woods roads in Harriman State Park. And frankly, to get in a bit over my head and test my appetite for ATB way finding.
This was my first real “am I going to get in trouble being here?” and extensive hike-a-bike situation. However, while navigating one of the pictures trail ponds, two rangers came by on a little ATV, smiled and said “there’s more of this ahead!”
I also got a crash course (thankfully not too literally!) in riding up and down very, very chunky and loose stone and mud. The fenders did not in any way impede my progress 😎.
The Ritchey Ascent feels great. When climbing, it basically always feels like you’re getting 100% of your effort returned. When the going got really rough, I just went into the drops and let the bike go where it wanted about half the time.
Happy to answer any questions about the rig and experience. Can’t wait to do more of this, but perhaps a leeeeeeetle bit less rough.
