  1. I have a similar setup, came like this from the store. I call it “suicide bell”, because you know why.. It’s structurally sound.

  2. If you’re clamping over a spacer, then that’s fine. If it’s clamped directly to the steer tube, then there is a chance that this will make preloading your headset one step more complicated. that said, if you can remember to loosen it when preloading then it should be fine.

no major issues that I can think of besides that. mounting it on the flats or finding a bell that mounts in the drops means it’d be more convenient, but nothing besides a split second of movement is preventing you from hitting it where it is now!

It seems like as long as you are clamped to a spacer it seems to be a great use of real estate!

  4. Main reason why not: you could potentially bruise or split your knee open with it while pedalling out of the saddle, especially uphill. I moved away from stem side bags for a similarish reason, cause brushing knees against it was annoying.

Ive had mine mounted in this position for years. I like how it declutters the handlebars.

  6. You should always seek to keep 2 hands on the bars whenever possible. Safer to just call out ‘careful’ as you approach.

  7. I run my bell there, love it. If I need to get to the bell I’m not going fast, because in an emergency I’m screaming!

Looks great there, and as a bonus I don’t ding it with my knee like I used to when it was behind the stem, or sideways, and I can still get a pack on top!

  8. I have a bell on my handlebars that I still have to move my hand to reach and I definitely use it less than if I could reach it without moving my hand at all

  9. I use a cowbell and hang it under the saddle. In busy areas, I leave it in the ringing position and the regular motion of the bike rings the bell. When I need it to be extra ringy, I lift my ass off the saddle and shake the bike side to side. I like it under the saddle so it is less loud to my ears.

It has a clip that mutes the bell. I can reach under my ass and clip the bell when I want it silent. 🙂

It works well with my non-confrontational personality because I’m not actively ringing the bell – it sorta does it on its own lol!!!

  10. Hate bells, they just make people do unpredictable things. I just freewheel and they hear the bike slowly coming that way
