Reports indicate that Bayern Munich is going to go all-in after Bayer Leverkusen attacker Florian Wirtz next summer, which gives us a year to figure out how to stop it. Nothing against Bayern Munich specifically, but a club like Bayer Leverkusen, who finally overtook the Bundesliga giants, selling their best player to the team that has historically dominated would be terrible for European football.

  1. Honestly i don‘t think you habe to stop it. Bayern will not be the only Club going for Wirtz‘s Signature next Summer, and i think Bayern is one of the better options, because:

    1. I think the best German Players should play in Germany
    2. Nobody wants to see clubs like Man City, Real Madrid or PSG buying even more World Class Players and making the sport even more unfair
    3. He gets to play with Jamal Musiala, with whom he seems to be really good friends on and off the pitch

  2. 0:55 Leverkusen is not about to become one of those clubs
neither in terms of success, nor financially and not in regards to prospect

their unbeaten run was astonishing but not in the slightest comparable to even winning the Champions League
their opponents in the DFB Pokal were very weak except for Stuttgart and in the league
all three main competitors did not perform: Leipzig 1.91 ppg / Dortmund 1.85 ppg / Bayern 2.11 ppg

    DFB Pokal opposition:
    Kaiserslautern – #13 in the 2nd divison
Fortuna Düsseldorf – #3 in the 2nd division
SC Paderborn – #7 in the 2nd division
SV Sandhausen – #8 in the 3rd division
FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen – #9 in the 4th division

Leverkusen's highest paid player is Grimaldo at just above 3.50 million €, that is a joke compared to actual top clubs
while Leverkusen gets some money from Bayer their annual revenue is around 300 million €, Bayern's is 900 million €, Madris sits at 1.100 million €

in regards to prospect you just need to look at their former coaches honestly:
Seoane – came from Swiss league, now at Gladbach, did not do well at either club
Hannes Wolf – interim, former and current Germany youth coach
Peter Bosz – performed decent at Eindhoven afterwards but those were his first titles at age 60
Heiko Herrlich – went on to coach Augsburg afterwards and averaged just 1 ppg
Tayfun Korkut – went on to coach 2nd division Hertha at just 0.76 ppg

Leverkusen was a decent destination in the late 90s and early 2000s, ever since they have not been able to attract established top coaches
as soon as Alonso leaves I'm pretty sure the current playstyle and identity and the squad will fall apart as well

  3. What‘s the alternative?

City, which don‘t have a CAM in their system and already have a Star stacked team, with Wirtz making them even more dominant?
PSG, who are spending hundreds of millions every Summer just to ruin french football even more and not winning the UCL?
Real Madrid, who already have Vini, Rodrygo, Mbappé, Endrick, Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham in their Attack?

Also the „bUt It‘S oNlY tHe BuNdEsLiGa“ Argument doesn’t work if the League stays competitive and attractive. We‘ve seen two german teams in the UCL semi finals last year, with the „worst Bayern side in 15 years beating the premier league title contenders Arsenal and almost overcoming that star stacked real Madrid team in the semis.

If Leverkusen stay competitive in the Bundesliga and UCL, i think they can meep him for 2-3 years. But Bayern are one of the worlds biggest clubs, only behind Madrid, have very high chances of winning european silverware in the next few years, and the money to afford Wirtz‘s Transfer fee and Wages.

I think Bayern makes the most sense for Wirtz now, but maybe that changes if Arsenal, City or Real change their systems to accommodate Wirtz as a CAM, they are better options.
