Currently have a trek domane SL5 (endurance road bike) but have been looking to get a gravel bike as a second bike. I baby the domane (never been on dirt or even laid on its side) I've been looking for a second bike that I wouldn't mind riding on dirt or leaving outside to run into a store without extremely fear of it being stolen. I've been trying to find a used quality gravel bike for $500 or less but that doesn't seem to realistic. What is everyone's thought on the Ozark Trail gravel bike? Is it a waste of money, or a good around town, basic dirt bike for $270 or should i just increase my used budget?

I think you should increase your budget, and look used. I would steer clear of ozark trail gravel bikes, although it may be serviceable for some, it’s going to lack a lot of attention to detail that you’re used to on your domane.
We found a used Marin on marketplace for 500 for my partner to “test the waters” on gravel. Modern components and a durable steel bike that (she says) is super fun to ride. Even brand new they’re 800.
Regarding ozark trail – I’ve heard from this sub that they are surprisingly good. Just need to bring it right to your lbs to make sure there is no assembly errors
Just get 38c tires and take your Domane on gravel. That’s what it’s made for. You can get frame protection tape for the down tube, chain stays, seat stays and inside the fork crown.
Or trade it in for a Checkpoint SL5. It’s almost identical besides more tire clearance and a GRX groupset.
