I did a bike trip from Poland to Italy like that with my friends, around 1400 km back in 2021 when the lockdowns made it almost impossible to travel. Your adventure makes me wanna do it all over again:)

That was actually a legless lizard called a "Sheltopusik" (Pseudopus apodus). Easy way to tell them apart from snakes is that they have eyelids, ears, and long pleats running the length of their bodies. Favorite foods are slugs and snails. Be careful when handling them because their tails break off easily like a lizard's, earning them the nickname "glass lizard".

Amazing! I would immediately be in panic mode when running out of water in such an environment. But you stayed calm and succeeded in the end. Good job! And how beautiful nature is all around there.
