After a week of heavy riding in morzine, the clutch on my derailleur seems to have given up, the weird part is that it was absolutely fine on the last day of riding, but when I took it out the van after driving home I then noticed alot of slack in the chain, thought it was b tension, then noticed the clutch

This video seems to be fairly detailed and should be the same or similar process for your derailer (Shimano XT)
