Grabbed this 1994 Specialized Stumpjumper over the winter and have been riding it a ton this summer, getting to know the quirks from the previous owner. I love it so much.
I’ve recently been modifying it myself at my local bike shop DIY workspace and planning on taking it on a bike packing trip in the future!

For your backpacking trip, make sure you research the route, especially elevation changes, as it could make hill climbs unbearable with your 1x setup.
