This was very common for those of us who came up in the mid-skool mtb era. Now that all my bikes are tubeless, I don’t have a steady supply of used tubes, so I use cloth tape (lighter and more classy), or VHS Slapper tape.

I do this to all my bikes. Just got an ebike and it’s about to get the same treatment.

I used to this now I use clear gorilla tape or 3M clear repair tape.

I do this but roll it from the other end so that it’s more aero 😁

Not sure if you need it on an internally geared bike. Proper chain tension will eliminate any chain slap.
