So, the problem I've been having since 2022 has been building a rear wheel for my e-bike. I bought a QS 3kW hub motor from eBay and found out I needed to build it myself. I decided to buy a Spank 26" rim for the build (SPOON 32 Rim – SPANK Industries (spank-ind.com)) but overlooked a minor detail. The motor I bought has 36 holes, whereas my rim has the standard 32. This has made spoking an insane challenge, and I can't figure it out. I've tried straight and single-cross patterns, but they end up causing loose spokes, which sounds like a safety hazard. Given the dimensions and such, I was wondering if anyone here could let me know of a solution. I'll try my best to provide any information anyone needs. Thanks in advance.

The solution is to get a 36-spoke rim to match your 36-spoke hub.
There are ways to lace mismatched hubs and rims together, but it is only really done by bored veteran wheel builders as a challenge. Mismatched wheel/rim combos are always going to be weaker than a matched set and would be a very bad ideal for a hub motor wheel build.
Honestly, if you’ve never built a wheel before, a hub motor build isn’t likely to go well for you.
