  1. I've never seen them things in buildings. Butcher Baker wounder if the other one was the candle stick maker 😂😂. Oldhams shops are disappearing unfortunately. If we need anytjing now you have to get online or travel unfortunately 😢. I was really surprised how busy it was in your vid. I used to love the snipe it allways had kariokie on. Gutted its gone , love your intro Sarah xxx ❤

  2. That is the problem with VAT, the money goes to the central government, so there is no incentive for local councils to boost local shops. That is unless things have changed in the UK. Is there any pubs still open in Oldham I get the impression the council is trying to turn it into a dry(no booze) town.

  3. I just noticed the new intro love it! the buildings you showed with the stone carvings of the occupations was fascinating I have never noticed them before. Isn't it weird how you live in a town all your life and not notice something?!! lol!. Thank you Sarah xx

  4. Read this to yourself or out loud in the style of Pam Ayres

It's such a shame that Oldham gets you down, not surprised with the state of this bloody old town. So when your feeling blue what do you do? You get some chips and gravy down your bloody gizzard, and like a spell conjured up by a wizard it'll turn your frown upside down. And once again you'll be happy to be in good old Oldham Town. xx😉

  5. My last walk around Oldham market was on Saturday 6th August 1988, the day we emigrated to Australia, it was a warm sunny day and the market was buzzing, I wish I’d took photos, it makes me sad to see how it is now, the soul has gone out of it 😢

  6. Wow,-I used to drink at the "Snipe"-&-the "conquered-bear"-I saw your vid. there,–the markets used to be open on a tues,-I think,-allways-busy !–how many more great old Pubs,-are going to go?–mam,Oldham have a great "atmosphere"–the "Sun"was another great Pub,–what about "The-Turks Head" ??–did you ever go to "Baileys"-or "the Candle-light" club ??-

  7. I used to love the atmosphere of Oldham market on Christmas Eve. Then a drink in the Greaves before getting the bus home. Memories of Oldham in the late 70s and early 80s. Now very glad I live in Llandudno. So sad as you can't beat the people from Oldham. Wendy

  8. Why did you find it depressing on this visit Sarah? Do you think it’s because you’ve moved away so when you visit you see it how it really is? I think Oldham has been bad for a long time.

  9. Never noticed them stone pieces in front of them shop fronts before that’s well good. Never heard them mentioned before either. Now that’s shop front signage original style! Haa

  10. I knew Oldham back in the 70's and it was nothing like it is shown here. Remember the Old Victoria market Hall before it burned down in 74 and Tommy Fields market on a Saturday afternoon was really busy. Stallholders selling almost anything and a place to go for bargains. We shopped to buy Declerqs muffins and farmhouse cheese for Sunday tea. As a kid I enjoyed having potato fritters on a cold winter day and visiting the newsagent stall in the old Hilton arcade to buy American comics. All gone now and I honestly don't recognise the place as the Oldham I knew, very sad.

  11. I worked on Oldham Market when it was the best Market in all the North of England. 80s/90s on a fruit & veg stall on the outside Market. The winter was hard but the summer's were amazing. The tail I could tell of some of the stall owners the tricks we played on one another. We all knew each other and respected each other. The changes Oldham Council made to it that finally killed it. R.I.P Oldham Market you will never be the same again

  12. I was born & bred in Oldham. I have fond memories of my place of birth – Alexandra Park as a young boy and pubs in my late teens. I moved away in my mid 20’s having been promoted by the Textile Company that employed me. Sadly, I have never been back since.
