NBD: 2010 Hillborne

Picked up a new-to-me Rivendell Sam Hillborne yesterday.

A bit large (60cm), but it was a good enough deal I couldn’t pass it up. I am tempted to pick up one of the new Appaloosa frames when they come out tho.

Here’s my best guess on the build. I’ve not IDed everything 100%.

• 700c Velocity Dyad machined rims with a SONdelux laced in up front, Rohloff 500/14 in the rear. Standard 16 cog.
• White Industries crank set, 44 tooth
• MKS Lambda Grip King pedals
• Tange-Seiki Levin headset
• Nitto Boscomoose bars, fillet not tig (?!?)
• Nitto campee large rack
• Tektro R365 calipers
• Brooks B66

The bars are a bit higher than I like, and you can’t change the angle. I’m thinking I’ll pickup a new stem and swap them for Albatross.

The brakes aren’t grippy enough for the hills so I’ll be putting on Kool-Stop pads, or swapping out the calipers if that’s not enough.

Going to see if I can use an eccentric bottom bracket and drop the chain tensioner. I’ll drop the Rohloff’s torque arm if I can get their “OEM2” axle plate to work.

Somewhere along the line I need to get lights. Don’t know what yet – would love to hear ideas there for both front & tail. After that will be fenders before the rains start later this year.

Does anyone know if I have to use Rohloff’s shifting cables & housing? I’d like to revise the cable routing to use the frame’s braze-ons for derailleur housing. The section along the top tube would be without housing.

Absolutely loving the metallic orange. Overall it rides like a dream 🙂
