It’s a steel frame. I’m re-installing a Chris King BB. Wondering if I should get this faced (is that the term?) then thought maybe I could do it myself

  2. The frame will be fine after bb instal. The paint shaves off and all you have left is a seamless paint to crank. Use a sanitizer wipe on it .makes it shiny.

I removed it when I built my bike. I wanted to have the best, most precise fit possible for anything and everything since it was a passion project at the time. I don’t think I used sandpaper though. If I recall correctly, I used a razor blade to carefully shave off the paint. Since the steel in the razor is softer than the steel of the frame, you don’t risk damaging the metal. I’m not sure whether sandpaper would possibly remove material from the frame itself.

You don’t sand it, you use a reamer, which is such a specific tool there’s no reason to get one, every bike decent shop has one though
