I just picked up this bike for €300 and want to make it my new city commuter. I would like to replaced the drop bars for straight bars and mount a chrome basket in front, will look super nice!
But my question is in the gearing. The one groupset is ultegra 9 speed with triple chain rings. I think it is the 6500 series and it's now a question of which shifters would work with these derailleurs.
I'm looking at the shimano SL M2000 shifters (altus)
Anyone have experience in doing this conversion?

Shifters will work, but you should be careful with the brakes. Not all flat-bar brake levers have the pull ratio that is suited to road caliper brakes. Even if they work fine, you’ll have worse braking performance compared to a regular city bike with V-brakes.
