Hardly used Dawes Galaxy Touring cycle
27 gears with beautiful action; immediate change from one gear to another . Size large . Shimano Deore . New four Ortlieb bags . New cassette and new tyres . New chain

    £360

    A good deal?

  2. I don’t know the bike. I would be a bit worried about the cantilever brakes, and I hate the colour of the bags (and are those backrollers in front?), but yeah, sounds like a good deal to me, in particular if it’s steel.

But are you sure it’s deore? Doesn’t look like it…

The one picture is too little information but 360 sounds ok IF the frame is undamaged. Check if the bike tracks, no dents etc. As for the groupset, it looks old but i like these sets, they are simple and reliable. Check if the cassette and chain are not worn out.

  4. It’s a fair deal as the group set is dated, bar end shifters are now niche and the cantilever breaks will feel underpowered for anyone who has experienced disc. Tyre clearance may also be an issue for modern tastes.

But the frame is quality and looks great. If it had a brooks b17 saddle it would be a complete retro package. As it is £360 is fair. I’ve seen plenty that haven’t moved in 10 years go for £250 so in running order £360 isn’t unreasonable.

Edit: just see it’s got 4 new ortliebs. If they’re classic rollers then they’re worth £60 a piece. That’s an amazing deal.
